Fragments
Fragments is the first series by GLENNJULIO. Each work takes the most iconic part of a painting everyone knows and translates it into a modern design, painted by hand in oil on anodised aluminium.
Only the fragment is painted. The rest of the panel stays bare metal.
Why aluminium
Old masters painted on canvas and oak. Aluminium belongs to another century: industrial, cool, exact.
Here the metal is not a background. It catches the light and changes as you move. It holds the empty space as firmly as the paint holds the image.
Because the aluminium answers the light around it, the work is a different painting in every light and every room.
The dissolving edge
Every fragment ends the same way. Full detail loosens into brushstrokes, and the brushstrokes fall away into nothing.
This transition is the signature of the series. It is where the familiar painting stops.
After the masters
The source is always recognisable. A pearl earring. A stream of milk. A night sky. You never see the whole painting, only its most iconic part.
Fragments does not copy the past. It translates it into the language of today, and deliberately leaves the rest unseen.
